Jan & Feb 2014

January 2014 began at Jennifer and Ivan’s house. Michael and I were attending his sister’s and brother-in-law’s New Year’s Eve party, consisting of only us four (and their cat, Romeo).  I made a chili cheese dip, Michael made jalepeno poppers, and we also ate pizza and chicken wings for dinner.  Any drinks we made that evening consisted of some of the following: champagne, Peach Schnapps, Sprite, and vodka.  Our main drink was a Bellini Cocktail.  Unfortunately, we did not care for it much.  If you want to try it out, I included the recipe below.  Later in the evening, we played Just Dance 2014, watch the ball drop, and listened to a variety of music.

Bellini Cocktail

2 oz. peach nectar

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 oz. Peach Schnapps

3 oz. chilled, dry champagne

1/2 cup crushed ice

Of course Michael and I were in New Jersey, so after New Year’s we spent more time with his family and friends.  Michael, David, Jacob, and I went to see Anchorman 2, which we all enjoyed.  I appreciated that there was a good mix of new laughs and shout-outs to the first film.  Some parts were awkward, but overall I liked it and found it pretty funny!

In mid-January I began applying for jobs in the Clarion area.  I applied to the university, actually, for a position as a student assistant.  For that position I would be helping students sort out their classes, find organizations to take part in, and refer them to any kind of extra help on campus (counseling, health services, etc.). It’s also possible I could be conducting some light therapy.  The other job I have applied to so far is a position at the Clarion Psychiatric Center.  I would be interviewing and contacting clients, doing office work, providing information to doctors and staff, and helping in other various ways.  I am very nervous about getting a job (interviewing, training, and doing the job in general), and I’m just overall anxious about my life currently.  I have no idea what I want to do with my life; there are so many directions in which I could go and am unsure what I would enjoy the most, and am also scared I am not suited for any of them.

At the beginning of February, Michael’s mom came to visit us at our apartment! She came to deliver Michael’s new computer.  Michael’s dad built it himself, and it’s very high-tech and expensive.  Michael is incredibly thrilled.

I have started to watch SNL on a regular basis (finally!).

Other shows I currently watch: The Walking Dead, Once Upon A Time, Parenthood, Suburgatory, The Big Bang Theory, South Park, American Horror Story.  I have also been watching Breaking Bad on Netflix for some time (it’s so stressful but amazing!)

Books I’ve read: The Divergent Series (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant). I am currently reading The Fault in Our Stars.  Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars are both getting movie adaptions coming out this year (both with the same actress).  I am excited for both of them, but am also pretty nervous about Divergent.  It is hard to say whether it will be a success or not; I think it will be because it has a recipe for success (strong female lead, dystopian society, action, and “factions” fans can feel a part of (similar to the Hogwarts houses).  I just finished Allegiant, however, and it was really disappointing.  It makes me feel a little worried about the entire series now.  The Fault in Our Stars isn’t necessarily the type of book I would pick up and read on my own, but because it was so successful, I wanted to give it a try.  I must say, it’s one of those books where, even if it isn’t the genre you’re into, it’s a really great read.  I’m loving it so far and it’s really hard to put it down at night.

Games I’ve played: Still playing Bioshock: Inifinite, GTAV, Phoenix Wright. I finally beat Portal!

This also seems to be the time of Youtube videos. I have become addicted to watching various Youtubers on that site; Danisnotonfire, AmazingPhil, SteveKardynal, FineBrothers, Shane, Pleatedjeans, Bubz, JennaMarbles, Kingsley, and Philip Defranco.  I watch them so much that they feel like friends. ❤

I’ve been listening to tons of music.  I have started a musical journey exercise that involves listening to the top albums from 1960 to today.  Right now I am finishing up 1961.  It’s going to take a while to get through these, but it’s been fun so far!

Some other things I have done to better myself this year are:

Learn GRE words each day, practice Spanish each day on Duolingo, start a book club on Goodreads with Michael, track my tasks on HabitRPG, read the news each day, and learn HTML/CSS/JavaScript.  Michael and I have also decided to try two new activities each week.  This week we will be viewing an International fashion show and eating International foods on campus.  We will also be answering questions on Yahoo Answers and playing Outbreak: Undead (a zombie tabletop RPG).
